Mod-ooo-lar design

Adrien J.
  • What techniques came back to you quickly?

Modeling in editable poly mode was simple enough. I focused on tools like bevel and bridge to make modular pieces. Working with simple primitives was very easy. Most of the time it required no more than a click of a button and some parameter entries.

  • What did you struggle with?

One major thing I struggled with, was assembling my modular house. There were different pieces to use, and figuring out how I wanted to assemble them took some thinking. Once I had an idea for how a house was going to look, I needed to align, and adjust them to fit the design. This part was not particularly challenging, and it took little time.

  • How did you overcome the problems you experienced?

For problem associate with this project, all I needed to do was set some time away from the computer to just think. Think of creative solutions to make, and assemble modular pieces. There were no parts of this project, where I got "stuck."

  • What did you learn from this project?

This is the first time I have done a project knowing that I am doing modular design. (I have done it in the past without knowing the name.) With that being said, although it takes some time to create modular pieces, it is a more efficient process. Once I had pieces made, and a layout for my house, assembly took little time. The benefits of using modular design, is that it goes quicker when you are creating multiple assets, and you can make rendering more efficient by using instances of objects. A downside to this method is slight less detail of the houses and a lack of distinction.
