Into the Unknown!

For the past few weeks, I have been working on an exploration game in my game design class. While it was fun to make, there was a lot of thought and planning that went into this. First of all, I did not have access to coding. Meaning that if I wanted my game to complete a certain action, I had to find already existing scripts on the asset store to incorporate into my game. I searched several assets on the Unity asset store. Some of them worked, others did not. One important thing I learned about importing assets, is to always check to see what instructions the creator left for you. Never assume that the asset will immediately begin to work when you import into your game.

As mentioned above, there was a lot of trial and error with my assets. I had to think of creative solutions to my problems. For example, I was unable to import enemies into my game, so instead, I imported my game into a scene that already had functional enemies. Pretty clever, right?!

On top of finding functioning assets, I also had to create my own model, and 2d assets to import into my game. This part was not particularly difficult because I already have the skills to create models and textures. Perhaps the most difficult part was importing the finished products into my game. For my model, I created a mystic book. I created a texture to go along with it.

One thing I did really well for this project was adding creative assets to my game. I am pretty sure that I am the only one who has a teleporter in their game. One thing I can improve upon is time management. I wanted to go above and beyond, but the time given was not enough to do so. Despite that, it was a really exciting project, and I cant wait till I start another game.
