Materials + 3D Models = Realistic Object

Adrien J.

Hello, I am back again to talk about a a tool in 3D modeling that was briefly covered at the end of the school year. This tool is called materials and they are very cool and useful if you know what you doing. At the end of the school year my knowledge of materials was basic however as summer progresses I learn more about materials. Currently I am working on recreating a real life object in my house on Clara.io. This object is a board game called monopoly. I what make this project especially interesting is the fact that my board game has several different colors and part of the board is transparent. By exploring the different Clar.io I found the differences between different types of materials. I even figured out what some settings do to a material. For an example, if I am using a standard material I can then change the opacity to give my object a kind of transparent look. Add some gloss to that and you get a plastic board just like in real life. What I am telling you is a lot however it is know near all the stuff there is to learn about materials. There are several material I don’t know about but I plan to explore. Another thing I need to tell you is that materials can also be based off images. To better explain, you can take a picture from your computer, apply it to your material, and your object will now show the image on its face(s). I am still new to this technique however I do know it can be used to make crazy realistic object. I plan on exploring this method for my next project. Anyways this is all I have to say for materials however I look forward to exploring more tool and techniques in 3D Modeling so I can share them with you.
