What I Know and What I Want To Know About Animation

Adrien J.

I have recently got back from winter break and I am thrilled to tell you that for my next unit I will be learning about and doing animation. To begin, let me tell you what I already know about animation. I know that animation is a process where the artist draws a bunch of pictures with gradual changes to create the illusion of movement. I know that there are different types of animation such as hand-drawn and CGI. When I first began this unit knew the general idea behind animation however there is so much more detail than even I don’t know about yet.

Now let me tell you about what I have learned within the past week about animation. There are 5 types of animation:

traditional, 2D, 3D, stop motion, and motion graphics. Each animation has a different process however they all share a concept of drawing several pictures to create the illusion of movement. Now I know I have mentioned that you have to draw several pictures however I did not tell you a specific amount. The professional amount of pictures that an animation needs per second are 24. The last thing that I have learned this week is that there are 12 principles of animation. I don’t quite know what they are but I will by the end of the month. There is so much information I need to know for animation but luckily I have just started the unit. I want to know more about claymation because it seems to be a complex form of animation. I also want to learn about CGI and hopefully, next year even make a 3D animation. The things I wish to know before the end of this unit are, how to animate, 12 principles and how to use them, and how to use programs such as adobe animate. I am excited to continue working on animation and who knows maybe I will decide to be an animator when I grow up. - What I knew about animation before the unit
